Testing: New to Kitchens? Read Me First! (August 2020)
Comments (1)All my other threads have now mysteriously re-appeared (i.e., I suspect the Houzz bug has been fixed). Let's use the first one I created and let this thread slowly fade away. Here's the one to go to: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5972404/new-to-kitchens-read-me-first-2020-interim#n=1...See MoreThis kitchen is making me ️
Comments (21)Well for $20,000, you probably shouldn't be moving any walls. Start by figuring out what your dream new layout would be. Then figure out whether you really could reuse your current cabinets effectively. And what the rough budget would be with recycled cabinets, and with all new cabinets. If you could realistically do that within 5 years, just rehang your cabinets and wait. Don't put a lot of money into countertops and backsplash that will get ripped out again in a few years. For a quick cosmetic upgrade while you wait, put in new laminate countertops. Paint the tile backsplash. Or rip it out, use a 4" laminate backsplash, and paint the rest of the walls between the counters and the cabinets....See MoreHow does our first draft of kitchen remodel look?
Comments (6)I'm not seeing any indications of fillers or panels for the ref. Those must factor into your dimensions. It is hard to help without a floor plan to see where everything relates to eachother and the surrounding areas. Do you have one? I also agree that things drawn out on paper will look very different once they are entered into a design program and you can see the space in 3 D . Having everything so balanced sometimes doesn't work for different functions of the space. Posting a floor plan will certainly get more folks into commenting as well. Congrats on getting a new kitchen!...See MoreNew cabin build KITCHEN design help
Comments (28)Buehl, wow. This is amazing. You are showing me exactly what I need to see and it then becomes more clear the problems and best approach for layout. You make good points. I woke up realizing I wanted to hang on to the existing style pantry and was happy to see Dan and HU-457756048 mention it as well. Unfortunately IKEA’s are 6 hours away. Our builder suggested KK as they are decent quality and have been available during supply chain issues and fit our kitchen budget nicely....See Morejust_janni
