Input on final white wainscott bathroom touches?
Comments (5)You don't need to get terribly fancy in the shower. Do at least try to break up the solid wall of subway in the shower with an inset of band of accent tile, just below mid-height on the wall. To get a starting point I'll look at inserting the band around 40%-42% up the wall. Meaning if I had 10 courses or rows of tile on the wall, instead of having 5 courses below the band and five above, I'd shoot for 4 below and 6 above. I you want to shift gears a bit more you can do a standard subway running bond pattern below the band, then shift to herringbone subway above the band. Just an idea. Comments (20)brutuses, Thank you for the comments. My hubby did all the columns cabinets and the fireplace in the living room! The mantel is Foster mantel unfinished dental molding style 60" from Lowes(a regular in stock item here is so.Calif), the pilaster sides are also from the same company with the routing all ready done. The rest of the detail and the face wood (below mantel) are pieces of finish grade pine unfinished that hubby bought and cut to complete the detail. DH suggested that you take the pics to Lowes and ask them to match up the trims and detail pieces for you. We don't have the names of them. I took some more pics and will post them for you to see more detail. The living room walls are Sherwin Williams Barley. The fireplace was painted in Killz primer from either home depot or Lowes. The finish color of fireplace and all moldings and cabinets (white) and trim is Sherman Williams too. Let me know if you need any other info! Comments (120)I have always had many, many guests: professional friends who may stay across a weekend, university students who come for a meal, or, in times past, lived at my house. I have pretty things, and I have taught dozens of young women how to take care of porcelain, crystal and silver (no, don't scrub it with a scrubbing pad...). Almost all people are respectful of other people's things and if I see something I don't like going on, I feel very comfortable telling them to cease and desist. If someone's children decide to bounce on the sofa, I just scoop them up and put them somewhere else. The biggest problem for those of us with old furniture that doesn't have bulletproof finishes is water marks. I have to patrol a little bit at a party to make sure people are using coasters and not leaving wet marks on the tables. Same goes for house guests: " make sure you don't put your wet towels on the back of wooden chairs--use this rack instead." I found the comment about books being somewhat private to be the oddest of the odd....I'm of the other persuasion. People with big book cabinets filled with a cookbook or two and a lot of "filler" are weird to me--with the obvious implication that the owners are among of the college-educated persons who, upon graduation, never read another book. What's the percentage? I forgot, but something very high, like 75%....See MorePLEASE help me add some LIFE with final touches on my new kitchen!!!!
Comments (19)If you can change both fan and dining light, then I would have them complement. No recessed lights in the living room? If you must have the fan, then something that hugs the ceiling with a flush mount light too but have primary lighting with an arched lamp and other lamps. Something with silver metal for dining light would complement the kitchen stainless steel/chrome. The type of lighting depends on your style. Same for window fabrics and coloring. You have a neutral background everywhere- what are your favorite colors? Is there a rug in LR with color?...See Moreprintesa
