Color Changing Ceiling Paint
Comments (10)Hi John, I kinda smiled when I read your post! I'm guessing your ceiling is the "popcorn" variety: Actually it's not the "fading-paint" that's the problem here...there's about 3 things simultaneously... * I work at a pretty busy ACE store, and we sell a lot of ACE'S "Simply Magic" blue-tinted ceiling paint that fades to white after a couple days. * ACE was the first Co. to come out with the photo-reactive dye for ceilings about 3 yrs. ago. * Most of these paints are a companies' upper-tier quality level...it's not a low quality issue. 1st: You had many areas you touched up differently, so there isn't a uniform layer. 2nd: Flat sheen, unprimed ceilings are notoriously porous. This alone causes half of your problem. 3rd: The last "entire-surface" coat just compounded the previous 2 varying coats. Remedy... * Use Zinsser's Odorless Oil primer. This won't "pull"-off existing popcorn like latex primers can. * Use a "slit-foam" roller-cover if popcorn ceiling. Rinse fuzz out b4 using. * Apply the "fading" paint north to south, then east to west. Use long strokes. * Alternatively, first coat N-S....second coat E-W. This should work! Comments (32)OP here. Just to clarify, yes, at the moment all that I can change is the colour of the bottom panel. However, all opinions are valuable, and you know, eventually the roof will have to be redone... ;) The front of the house is the only part that has been painted with the Slate colour, but the back of the house has been painted with the Driftwood, the trim paint, and the soffiting paint, and the scaffolding has been returned. Pic: Having watched my husband stand on a ladder on top of the scaffolding and practically hang out over the edge to paint the top, we're so not doing that again. :) We are limited in colours due to the formulation of this paint. I would have loved something more greeny, but didn't like the few greens they had. On the other hand, this does seem to read as green in different lights (our neighbors thought it was green). I quite like the driftood colour, and in real life, it goes nicely with the brick. Oddly enough, I had suggested painting one board where the stucco hardi panel and cedar join up, and DH had rejected that idea - will be looking at it again, though. DH is thinking of various options for the posts, some of which can be painted and some can't, so no decisions there as yet. Heck, we haven't even got the bobcat in yet to re-level the front of the house and then build a new walkway... The hardi-panel can be found here: http://www.jameshardie.com/builder/products_siding_hardiepanelSiding.py It's limited to 4x8, 4x9, or 4x10 sheets, so the plan is to have that 4 foot tall strip at the bottom, due to not being able to get all the cedar siding cleanly off the house. Think DH also wanted to use this for some manly reason of his own. Again, thanks to all for comments and work! Comments (10)Thank you. I’m waiting for pre fab cabinets to arrive for the kitchenette. It’s just base cabinets because the plan is to have 2 open shelves above (the ceilings are low). Now that I’ve accepted that I need a white im having a really hard time picking one since I don’t know if it’ll match with the pire white cabinets. Im thinking I need an off white so that the white cabinet and white subway tile will pop. Im considering Acadia white. Now im in the world of mixing whites and it’s not fun!!...See MoreFeedback, thoughts on changing color scheme and best paint colors.
Comments (13)First, I am not sure how much of the cabinet color in your inspiration picture is cabinet color vs lighting . . . See how these cabinets change color around the room going from very off white to pretty darn white. But to get to what you want you have a few challenges, but it can be done. First you have to decide on the wall color. The wall color has to work with your flooring, the extra white trim, the countertops and the backsplash. Then create a new color to test for for the cabinets that is 3/4 extra white and 1/4 wall color. It should act as a bridge between the extra white trim and the wall color. You may have to play with the mix to get it exactly where you want it. This usually works, but I have had times where I picked a neutral that was actually complementary to the trim and ended up with mud. . . Then I needed to just lighten with a brighter white than extra white and keep testing the mix against the wall color and trim till I got the mix right....See Moreworthyvess
