Insurance Question - Burgled!
Comments (12)Hi Sue...found it. Your policy will pay a max of $2500 period. There are several types of "contents" that have limited coverage...unless you "schedule" them. Scheduling involves getting appraisals...usually within 3 years old...and adding them as a rider with a fee. With me that fee for jewelry is $16/thousand (ie; $10K Ring= $160 in additional premium per year). Jewelry is the biggy, but furs, guns, fine art, silverware, etc. are also limited. Most companies will allow you to schedule those items, but there will be a fee. The problem I think your having is confusing how your everyday items...TV's, clothes, furniture, etc...are covered and how these specialty items are covered. Your TV, if stolen would get replaced with the same make and model at todays prices...AS LONG AS YOU REPLACE THAT ITEM. They WILL NOT give you cash for the replacement value. What they do is cut you a check for the depreciated value up front, then give you the balance once you replace that item and show proof of purchase. Jewelry however, is a completely different animal. As I said it's basic coverage is very limited on all policies. It can always be expanded for a fee and I always recommend that for valuable pieces. And yes, they'd only consider $8k, not $16k. Don't let that confuse you, they said they'd CONSIDER $8k, not pay $8k. Based on what you're telling me, they're only paying $2500....See MoreAnyone have 'floaters' or PVD (posterior vitreous detach)?
Comments (56)I found out yesterday I have a Vitreous Tear in my left eye. I have been nearsighted for 46 years. I am 57 now and myopic/stigmatism. I actually was scheduling a Lasik Surgery with a local opthamologist but now this floater/light flash thing is going on. Dr saw me and said I have a tear in my Vitreous and it is bleeding as well. Sent me home with instructions (no heavy lifting, no reading and the tear may relax and heal itself) I can watch TV. He wants to see me once a week to keep an eye on the tear. This Thursday I will be at another office he said with a lazer so I imagine he want to use it on me. Does someone have a idea what he will do to me with a lazer. Aside from the drops he put in my eyes when he put this thing in my eye that rolled all around my eyeball he did nothing yesterday. He said my retina is still attached so that is a good sign. I do not like TV but love the internet but he said I cannot read. So I made a patch like a pirate wears to cover the bad eye so I can read on the internet. Hope thats ok as I am lost w/o my net. I will ask him this Thursday if it will be okay to use it. Also now I do not know if I should risk getting Lasik surgery? Whats your thots? Anyone? BTW I love that this thread is here as I find very little online about this. Laura =)...See MoreTradesmen's Insurance & Bonding Question
Comments (12)"The mason just left. He went and GOT insurance to do our job." We hired someone to do a job and we required that he have liability insurance. He, too, "went and got insurance to do our job." I contacted the agent to make sure it was legit and he confirmed that a policy had been issued. Unfortunately, since I knew the guy we hired, I did not require that the agent send me a binding certificate right away and told him he could send it on Monday (he asked if that would be okay). The job only took about a week, and I was still waiting for the certificate to arrive when the job was completed. I called the agent to see what the delay was and he informed me that the guy we hired had called him (apparently right after he started the job on Monday) and canceled the policy. I asked the agent how that was possible when he himself had told me that a policy existed, he said since he hadn't issued the certificate yet, the policy could be cancelled. I took him at his word that a policy was in effect, but I should have made him give me the certificate right then and there. I was disgusted, but it was my own fault ... I should have been more diligent and less trusting. Lesson learned ... if the guy has insurance, have the agent send you a certificate proving it. And don't take anyone's "word" for it. Any legit business will be able to have their insurance company provide you with a certificate. And if he truly did get a policy just to do your job, they will be able to issue that certificate immediately....See MoreShower System installation question
Comments (11)"If standard drywall is a suitable substrate for Schluter Kirdi, I'm sure treated lumber would be as well." Joe, I think the issue here is that the waterproof membrane was applied to the walls and floor, THEN the bench seat was built/installed on TOP of the membrane. The installer plans to "seal" the tile on the un-waterproofed bench to the tile on the waterproofed shower walls and floor with caulk. To the OP, is my description correct?...See MoreDW H
