Kitchen Appliance Recommendation
Comments (4)The consensus here is that American Range is a good choice but Bluestar is a better choice. If going with American Range then the Performer Series is the way to go. Things that I don't like about AR include their double burner grate. A one burner grate is heavy enough to lift and clean. Double burner pro-style grates are very heavy. The only AR that does not have this is the step up range. That is just a silly gimmick. The other thing I don't like is the black coated cooktop surface. IMO difficult to clean. Much easier to clean cast iron or just let the small stuff patina over. I have never baked in the double convection oven offered by AR. I imagine it can't be worse than standard pro style gas oven. DCS fridges are rebadged Whirlpool/KitchenAid fridges. Usually good but not best in class. DCS ranges were considered very good before they were bought out by Fisher Paykel but seem to have suffered a bit lately. There is really nothing particularly innovative here. They do offer an All-Gas model with self-clean but the simmer is 140 /~750 btu and it is above your stated limit of $4.5k. Capital offers a Culinarian with self-clean, 23k btu very even heat burners that go down to 145 degrees plus one small pot burner that goes down to 500 btu. no development in a while They have developed quite a bit lately. In the Platinum Series.25k btu burners, true European convection, and quick preheat. And in the larger models they offer French plates and double griddles, and French doors. In 30" they offer standard grates that convert to wok grates, copper and different metal finishes, all the colors in the RAL color book including custom color knobs. In my perfect world I would add self-clean and heavy duty motorized rotisserie to the Bluestar Platinum Series like in the Capital Culinarian plus the knob bezels that light on when a burner is on like Dacor. But nobody makes that perfect range....See MoreAppliance recommendations

Thus, I put a high priority on an excellent range top. I'm spending my money here. I will also plan for really good ventilation. I put less emphasis on refrigeration. I just bought a KitchenAid Architect II instead of the Sub-zero. This move saved me some serious bucks I can use elsewhere. I have a Scotsman ice maker, but I'm eliminating it in the new kitchen plan. I'll sell it on Craig's List. I have enough ice from my refrigerator. If I need more ice for a party, I'll buy a few bags and put them in the cooler. This will save me some money, too. If you have children, a separate beverage refrigerator may be where you want to splurge. It's really a question of understanding your priorities. One thing did occur to me in your description. I have a double oven with integral microwave. I don't use it. I don't find the microwave to be user friendly in a large oven. Rather, I have a countertop microwave. I find it to be more convenient. When it fails, I won't be upset, it's easier to replace than the integral model. I love appliances. They are like grown up toys....See MoreAppliance recommendations please!
Comments (10)I just bought a GE refrigerator - model PYE22KSKSS for $2199 Costco online for Memorial Day sale (Costco #1151715). Price just dropped $400 on 5/17/2018. Can't beat the Costco 90-day return policy, 4-year warranty, and GE model made in USA. Another $119 makes it a 7-year warranty when you do the order. I prefer the "Profile" series looks over the "Cafe'" - just a cosmetic difference - but if you prefer this there's a model on costco.com too. Reports of LG/Samsung support were troubling. Note the height of the fridge too - the 'box' part is 69" - had to shave down my cabinet a little to accommodate this. I have a Bosch dishwasher and love the 30-minute cycle it has. Never would use my older Kitchenaid 'cuz it took 90 minutes....See MoreBest appliance recommendations
Comments (1)You should probably put together all components to get what you want. You can pick the “best” for each thing and get what you want. the only range with a steam oven is Thermador. What size do you want? Most electric ovens will have timers. My Wolf DF does but it is fiddly. I don’t recommend it either because of the blue chipping issue....See More3katz4me
