What's your favorite cheese
Comments (67)Love both of those! While I use them mostly for cooking, I always nibble some while grating. Both quite pungent, but not “stinky”, IMO. There are so many cheeses, but my tired mind can't come up with their names, and lists seem to give the ones you can get at a good supermarket, the ones no one's ever heard of which are useless without tasting, and nothing in the middle. Sorry, Rob, for letting you down. It's rather unfortunate that there are so many nutritious vegetables which I can't get past my nose without great force of will, and there are so many funky cheeses whose smells are a problem for the fridge but not for me, and in a land of plenty, cheese is not nutrutionally necessary. I can't remember what it was, but not so long ago I had a bit of a cheese leftover, well wrapped and in the fridge to stop it from maturing much further, and when I opened the fridge, I thought something had died in there! Aired out a little, the cheese was still good, and the fancy filters in the fridge took care of the stench. :) But I can't think of the name of the cheese at all......See MoreRECIPE: Omelet in a bag
Comments (15)My son wants to know why you didn't post this until AFTER he and his lady returned from a gruelling camping trip interstate. They rode their motorcycle from Brisbane to the bottom of Victoria (a lo-o-o-o-ng way - they took 4 days to get there!) taking with them only the most basic of basic essentials (2 people, a tent, sleeping bags, clothes, towels, cooking equipment etc - all on a motorbike!), and when they arrived they found that campsites were so close together, there was no room for campfires! (The things people will do to see their favourite sporting event live!Ah well, you're only young once.)They had a cigarette-packet-candle stove they could boil things on, so this omelette in a bag idea would have been very, very useful! Never mind, they've stored the idea in their memory banks for the next camping trip!...See MoreWhat's Your Fave Use of Holiday Leftovers?
Comments (27)I made ham and tenderloin for our family Christmas and tenderloin and Mongolian Beef for Elery's family. We sent all leftovers home with our children, so there were no sandwiches or pots of soup, unfortunately, although I did keep the ham bone and made a pot of split pea soup with it. I love scalloped potatoes with ham, but Elery does not. By the time the tenderloin is reheated it's too well done, as far as I'm concerned it's just really expensive pot roast at that point. I love turkey pot pie, turkey and gravy over biscuits, turkey and wild rice soup. Elery doesn't and it's not exactly health food, so it's not happening this year. My Mother is here with us and she's uber picky. She's eaten one banana so far today, she had a bowl of broccoli cheese soup last night. Elery doesn't eat any grains or dairy, mostly subsisting on boiled/microwave vegetables, a couple ounces of baked or roasted chicken or fish, large salads with no-calorie dressing and fresh fruit. I've given up even trying to cook. Annie...See MoreCheese board accoutrements, home-canning recipes or mail order faves?
Comments (32)And hence the joy of making your own preserves!! Once you start, you do become addicted to the superior taste and quality. You'd pay a pretty penny for a store-bought item with that level of taste and quality ingredients and craftmanship. Right now I am deep into pickle variations. I make and like bread and butters but have yet to find a dill that I can bwb that I like. I need to make shelf-stable ones to give away and store. But I have made tolerable dill sandwich slices. But I am going to give kosher dills another try, even thought the refrigerator ones are the real special deals. I have so many cukes and tomatoes I might not get to many jams this year. I hope I can get some blueberry lime jam made. Blueberry is one of the jams that I think is far superior to store bought in every way. That's not a particularly great cheese board item though . . . I found my recipe for "brandied carrot jam" which has the plus of being able to be made at my leisure any time of year . . . Although peach preserves are one of my favorite, I made a bunch last year and still have them so they might get pushed to the back burner for another year due to my glut of waiting tomatoes . . . Today I noticed I have a package of Certo, maybe I'll try an herbal jelly this year or a pepper jelly . . . If it manages to jell it will be fab. If not, I will get sick of using it as a sauce . . . I think the theme for my canning this year is going to be savories mostly. 60+ tomato plants and a couple of monster cucumber plants are seeing to that . . . I made the mistake of going on the "Nuts.com" last night. If all else fails, I may order some products from there to fill out my gift baskets. I have always wanted to try some of their products. I can't afford much in the way of fancy snacks but a few splurges will be hard to resist. The dark chocolate covered cranberries are calling my name . . ....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
