Trying to find a harmless bath tub under $400
Comments (71)My grandma eats sweets including homemade pies with 1-2 c sugar per pie, loves sweets in general, eats too many fried foods for my taste, doesn’t eat paint chips, bathes in a porcelain tub, and was JUST moved to a nursing facility this year since she’s losing her mobility (mind is still intact) and in another month she will be celebrating her 100th birthday. You don’t have to live in a bubble to live a long life. Much of your life expectancy is predetermined in large part by genetics. Use common sense and don’t lick the bathtub....See MoreKohler Greek tub as tub/shower combo
Comments (18)Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?...See MoreBest tub for bathing babies and dogs?
Comments (13)Thank you all for the great insights. Our kids are 12 and 13, but I do remember the baby days and was thinking of future owners. Re dogs -- Julie, what a great idea! You have me eying the utility sink in the mud room and figuring out how to transform that spot for a shower .... not going to happen any time soon, but it's a great idea. Thanks to all for the info on acrylic and dog nails. Pricklypear, you're right, dogs generally don't need to be bathed that frequently. In fact, our collie goes to a groomer every once in a while. But he tends to stink due to a digestive condition, and sometimes needs "emergency" bathing. But the truth is, we do have one more bathtub in this house. It's also acrylic of some kind, but it's cheap, in the basement, and not something that has to be pristine. I'm still stuck with a 30" width, though, and that really limits my tub choices. On to search Vikrell and cast iron!...See MoreWalk in shower vs. footed tub?
Comments (21)Prairiegirl, yes, I am very cognizant of getting older & mobility issues!! Thing is, I will have to climb a stairway to get up to my wheelchair-friendy shower! Dh & I have actually decided that we may eventually need to climb the stairs on our be-hinds to make it to the shower or tub. There is no space on our first floor to build a full bath. I'd like to throw another question out there. What if I did the reverse. Put the walk-in shower in the guest bath instead of the soaking tub, & put some sort of tub in the master & eventually upgrade that existing shower stall too? Congrats to your sis, on her new house. That pricing sounds fabulous. Where I am, you can basically get a condo for that price if you want to live in a decent area, & that's in the current economy. When I bought in '06...it was much worse....See MoreHU-787167202
